Please feel free to explain your response.
I came to study in the UK for my master’s at the Architectural Association in 2007. I had a bachelor’s degree in architecture from McGill University in Montreal plus a year of experience in office. All this was useful when I sat my ARB Part 1 exemption at the ARB in London, although this process was costly.
I welcome a proposal to open the master in architecture to other undergraduate degrees. But as you know, studying architecture takes a long time, and rightly so. By the time someone reaches the master’s, they know what is a crit, studio, table review, portfolio; they know how to use Rhino, AutoCad, Revit, Vray…; they know how to make architectural models, CNC, laser cut, 3d print; and yet as you know, they are still lacking a huge amount of knowledge, maturity and experience. But all they already know is vitally useful.
Someone coming into part 2 without part 1 will be in for a shock.

Please feel free to explain your response:
This is madness. The UK’s part 3 exam is already pretty loose compared to the AIA’s. In the USA, passing your state’s AIA exams is a huge deal, huge amount of study of the building code, etc. No one can be ready for that, for protecting the public interest, with less than 2 years’ experience in practice post graduation. You should make part 3 more like the AIA, with thorough knowledge of law and building regs, not easier.

Where is the knowledge of the law, the building regs, the JCT contract? By the time they reach part 3 training, arch assistants already know everything about design. But often they know nothing about contracts, law, case studies of fires, accidents, etc. Part 3 is about the regulatory framework.

Detailed knowledge of the law and building regs! Ideally include knowledge of the IBC as well.

Keep parts 1, 2 and 3, and make part 3 more stringent.
I do think it’s interesting to allow other graduates to enter into architecture at master’s level, but they will have to do at least a preparatory year.
