New regulatory framework
13. To what extent do you agree that ARB’s proposed regulatory framework will meet our aim and help to achieve our vision?

Personally I think the biggest blockade into the profession is the academic intensity of the masters element. I studied part time for my part 2 qualification and 2 years in found that it was not actually designed to be a part time route but rather a full time course taken over more time. Due to the sheer intensity of the group and design work required I was unable to complete the course and have therefore not been able to pursue my architectural education further. I have a family now and a mortgage therefore the idea of studying full time is simply not an option. I understand that there are now some apprentices available but having spoken to others studying these routes it does not seem to help things. In my opinion, until a truly part-time route, or a route that can be undertaken alongside having a family or financially supporting a household is available, there will continue to be a block on the diversity of the profession.
Professional practical experience
14. To what extent do you agree with ARB’s proposal to no longer require a minimum duration of practical experience?

Please feel free to explain your response:
As before, I do not think this was the issue as the requirement for the masters qualification is the more difficult to achieve alongside home life. I do think that the PEDR has always seemed overly administrative so I suppose the removal of this would help some people.
Competency Outcomes
15. To what extent do you agree that each competency area accurately reflects the skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours someone must demonstrate in order to practise as an architect?

They seem to be a good summary of the set of tools an architect would need at their disposal. Whether they would work as assessment criteria (including the knows how, shows how) would need to be tested.
I also wonder whether there is enough flexibility in these to be applicable to different types of practise - i.e. small practises working on single dwellings, to masterplanning practises working on housing developments?

Surprised there is nothing on sustainability?

Would be good if this was also geared towards part time/flexible routes . . .

Transitioning to the new framework
20. Are there any risks or opportunities you would like to raise about our implementation date for the new framework?
Are there any risks or opportunities you would like to raise about our implementation date for the new model?
I feel that could be a risk that people like myself, who have achieved a part 1 and would like to continue their architectural education at some point, may feel unsure about how they fit into the new system.
21. Is there any additional guidance you would like ARB to provide?
Is there any additional guidance you would like ARB to provide?
Guidance for people in this position and how they can achieve qualification would show the ARB are considering a wider range of future architects, not just those who can do the qualification through to registration straight from uni.

Is there any feedback you wish to give about a positive or negative impact on equality, diversity and inclusion within our proposals?
As previous comments, the real barrier is the part 2 as this is the one that needs to be done often when people have families or mortgages to pay - this is the real barrier! Especially to a lot of women entering the profession!
