13. Please tell us about any barriers you have observed that have prevented you or architects you know from undertaking good quality CPD?

poorly understood definition of CPD resulting in over reliance on less useful supplier delivered CPD, when on-the-job learning, research into regulations, laws or software usage have real benefit but are rarely recognised or recorded as CPD.
We encourage all of our technical staff to participate in CPD events and some of these issues relate to non-ARB registered staff. We find that there is apathy amongst staff to attend some of the formal CPD events which they don't feel are relevant to their work - consequently their CPD records can look quite slim, when questioned, they may have self-taught themselves new software packages or researched a particular legislative change which is not recorded. It is a constant battle to get people to identify these activities and record them.

It's not so much an issue of the CPD being innovative, it's getting people to recognise that learning how to use new visualisation software or researching changes in planning legislation which are relevant to our work and then sharing that information with others in the office is CPD!
