14. What is your view or experience of professional practical experience for architects?

Question 1: What is your view or experience of professional practical experience for architects? Please provide as much detail where possible.
From a practice prospective, the students are being told to expect high wages and taught under old systems. Post-Covid changes to BSA, Future Homes Standard, Low Carbon circular economy and Artificial Intelligence mean that practice has to effectively retrain the graduates, causing great expense and resource. This alongside the lack of Revit training which we believe should be mandatory for all architecture courses.

From a student perspective, the wages do not justify the course fees and current 7-year cycle. I understand this will be reduced by removing the undergraduate element however will not alone be sufficient to justify the costs.

I believe the undergraduate and masters courses should be completely reformed to include Ai, Revit, BSA and low carbon design. This, alongside reduced journey to become a licensed architect and/or reduced course fees.

15. Have you experienced or witnessed any good examples of professional practical experience, from within the UK and abroad?

Question 2: Have you experienced or witnessed any good examples of professional practical experience, from within the UK and abroad?
We support student placements every year and have recently reformed our induction programmes to include the up-to-date relevant standards and regulations.

16. Have you experienced or witnessed any examples of professional practical experience which you think could be improved?

Question 3: Have you experienced or witnessed any examples of professional practical experience which you think could be improved?
